Maintain self-sustaining populations of lake whitefish within the range of abundance observed during 1990-99

Lake Superior continues to maintain self-sustaining populations of lake whitefish that are supporting fisheries yields across the basin in the targeted range. Catch rates are above target levels despite declines in yield associated with declining effort. Lake whitefish recruitment during the reporting period showed significant increases, relative to the previous reporting period, with mean age-1 recruitment levels being well above the target abundance during the reporting period.
